Orco Property Group receives award for Innovative Investor of the Year 2007
Orco Property Group, a leading investor, developer and asset manager in the Central European real estate and hospitality market, is pleased to announce to be awarded with the Innovative Investor of the Year 2007 Award by the Warsaw Business Journal weekly magazine published in Poland.
Orco Property Group was recognized for its “continued dedication to energy efficiency and sustainable solutions”. The jury valued the fact that Orco is one of the first developers in Poland to implement energy efficient construction technologies across all market segments.
Examples of the sustainable and energy efficient solutions in Orco’s residential development projects include minimisation of heat loss by implementing thicker wall and roof insulations and utilising mechanical ventilation to achieve air-tightness, collection, filtration, and recirculation of rainwater, provision of green roofs, and exploitation of renewable sources of energy through the implementation of solar panels for heating and domestic hot water, photovoltaic panels for electricity production, and utilisation of wind energy.
Klonowa Aleja, an affordable housing scheme located in Targówek district of Warsaw, features technological solutions that will translate into energy savings of up to 20% of annual consumption, which is of crucial importance in view of the continued increase in energy costs. Orco provides approximately double the amount of insulation required by Polish building regulations. The 133 solar collectors on the Klonowa Aleja roofs will translate into savings of 514 GJ of energy per year for heating water, or up to 35% less heat water consumption for all inhabitants.
“From March until late autumn, the majority of the water used to heat the buildings will be produced by the collectors. The use of collectors means lower hot water bills for Klonowa Aleja residents however it also reduces the emission of carbon dioxide by 96 tonnes per year. If all housing estates built in 2008 in Warsaw with a total area of 98,600 sq. m were equipped with solar collectors, the emission of carbon dioxide in Warsaw would be lower by 5,400 tonnes per year” – says Bogdan Goławski, Orco Sustainable Development Manager in Poland.
